CLEANSING
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1ST 2012 | NATURAL ALTERNATIVES
Now, I used to wonder why I was never fond of diets or cleanses and I think it was because I always felt we used them as quick-fixes for bad habits. And, that in most cases, it seemed to never remedy anything because we only reverted back to those bad habits thereafter.
I don't expect to be a perfect person after this, not slowing down when my body's pleading with me to or not going into buy an unnecessary cup of white mocha. But what I've learned in the few cleanses that I have done, is that in challenging myself to give
up my unhealthy habits, in letting go of the fear that I can't live without the things I'm so attached to, I diffuse much of the craze and addiction and move closer to a conscious lifestyle.
And it's no easy, quick-fix remedy. It's a slow, mentally-challenging process, an exercise of the mind- hence the title Body and Mental Cleanse. Every week, I'll be eliminating one major diet-offender, trying out oil-free recipes, dishes without dairy or sugar to remind my self, my tastes buds and most importantly, my mind that naked food is delicious.
Week one is my biggest offender: sugar. I consume it the most in my tea, a bad habit I've begun recently after not putting any in my tea for years. A co-worker of mine suggested a naturally sweet tea, pictured here, called Bengali Spice Tea from Celestial Tea and it is delicious. A spicy but warming beginning to my month-long cleanse.
